What the Mayor’s Accelerated Housing Programme Means for Bow
Tower Hamlets Council has creates a dedicated Mayor’s Accelerated Housing Programme (MAHP) website.
The Plan in Brief The first batch of nine sites will deliver around 340 homes, with procurement starting this month. Further small, medium, and strategic sites will follow over the next six to nine months, representing an estimated £2bn in total development value.
Two Bow Sites in Phase 1
- Chisenhale Road: A proposal for 33 social-rent homes on the Hertford Union Canal. The south, east, and west facades of the industrial building housing Chisenhale Gallery and Chisenhale Dance Space will be kept, with a new four-to-six storey block built behind them. Chisenhale Dance Space will stay on the ground floor, and the design includes a fourth-floor roof terrace. Sensitivity to the Driffield Road Conservation Area and the active gallery is a key priority.
- Southern Grove: A 0.59-hectare site near Mile End including the vacant Victorian Southern Grove Lodge (c. 1872). The plan proposes 90 homes total: 56 new-build social-rent units, plus 34 private-sale homes created by restoring the historic lodge.
